Materials and Care of Cutlery
Stainless steel
cutlery is available in 18/0 and 18/10. The first number refers
to the % of chrome and the second to the % of nickel in the steel.
Generally the higher the content of these two metals, the higher
the quality, shine and stain resistance. Silver plated cutlery (EPNS
- electro-plated nickel silver) is electroplated to different thicknesses
(microns) on a nickel silver base. The knife blades are stainless
steel.
Knives are usually made from steel with a
high carbon content so that a sharp edge to the blade can be achieved.
However this lowers staining and corrosion resistance. All qualities
and types of cutlery should be treated with care and not left for
prolonged periods soaking or in damp conditions or in contact with
food. Cutlery should be washed thoroughly soon after use and dried
quickly. It should never be left to soak for more than a few minutes
and never with bleach or salt. Our cutlery is suitable for dishwashers
but cycles and detergents used should be checked with the machine
manufacturer.
Hollowware is all produced in 18/10
stainless steel for maximum stain resistance.
